Prized Possessions explores the curious world of collecting, where ordinary objects become vessels for memory, nostalgia and personal history. Through playful trompe-l’œil, familiar treasures are brought together in a scene that blurs the boundaries between reality and imagination.
A Matchbox Studebaker sits in the grass beside a hunter and his dog, evoking childhood worlds built through play. Above, iconic Beswick flying ducks appear to sweep across the sky, while their shadows reveal them anchored to the wall - a playful tension between freedom and permanence.
One duck has fallen into the water below, leaving behind an empty picture hook and the faint trace of where it once belonged. Its absence introduces ideas of fragility, loss and restoration, while the watchful dog hints that the hunt for another treasure is never quite over.
At its heart, Prized Possessions reflects on why we collect and preserve. Objects may be modest in material value, yet through memory and attachment they become something greater - markers of who we were, where we have been, and the stories we choose to keep.
