Destination Unknown
By Ross Jones
A contemplative landscape work exploring fragility, memory, and uncertainty through the imagined flight of a hand-built balsa wood aeroplane drifting over a vast high-country valley. Inspired by personal loss and the unpredictability of life’s direction, the work balances stillness and motion, permanence and disappearance.
Cool atmospheric tones of blue and grey establish a quiet, restrained environment, while a single warm orange accent acts as a focal pulse—suggesting presence, memory, and emotional persistence. The composition holds tension between grounded landscape and ephemeral flight, allowing the viewer to sit within a suspended moment of uncertainty and continuation.
Printed using archival pigment processes, the work preserves fine tonal transitions and atmospheric depth with exceptional clarity and longevity.
